Don't Look Back in Anger: How to Overpower Your Trauma

Don't Look Back in Anger: How to Overpower Your Trauma

Different folks for different strokes. There are different ways on how we deal with something, such as fear or trauma. Others fall into depression or anxiety, some develop repressed memories, while there are a number who easily become angry.

As you can see, trauma, especially an unresolved one, has a long-lasting impact in your life. If you are always angry, you may end up being verbally and physically abusive, as well as harm someone or yourself. You will never lose your anger not unless you get to settle your trauma.

But what should you do? The following may be helpful:

1. Acknowledge the issue. If you want help, then you should admit to yourself that you need one. The first step is to acknowledge that something is wrong, or if you are aware of the unresolved trauma, then you should admit that it is causing issues in your life.

2. Share your thoughts and feelings. For some reason we tend to settle issues all by ourselves just by talking about them. Perhaps the only resolution that you need is the admission that the traumatic event happened, and talking about it accomplishes the mission. Moreover, when you discuss about your pent-up feelings and thoughts over the trauma, your loved ones would be able to provide you with the emotional support you need.

3. Look for a professional to help you out. Unless you are properly guided, it may take a while before you can find yourself in the road to recovery. Moreover, you may choose methods that have serious repercussions later on.

You should know that there is always help available. You can reach out to counselors and psychotherapists. They have the knowledge, experience, and expertise that would be extremely useful to you.

4. Join support groups. Some sufferers do not want to join support groups, perhaps in the assumption that it only exposes them to ridicule and thus more pain and trauma. But the truth is you can expect the complete opposite. Being in the support group makes you realize that you are not alone in your suffering. There are a lot of people who are going through what you are experiencing, and their anger issues because of trauma may be worse than yours.

Further, you can learn from those who have successfully resolved their pent-up trauma and uncontrollable or unreasonable anger.

5. Surround yourself with a lot of love. When you have unresolved trauma, it is so easy for you to be vulnerable to a lot of negative emotions. You feel guilty, anxious, apprehensive, angry, and sad all at the same time.

It is very important to feel a lot of love, especially self-love. The following subliminal messages or affirmations may be used:

I am valuable to my friends and my family.

My past does not define my future.

I am throwing away all the bad memories of the past.

I have forgiven the past and the people who hurt me.

I can see myself being surrounded by the warmth of love.
